MultiTalented Musician Takes Stage at UC
Sujeet Desai to Perform at Lunch Hour Series

27-Year-Old with Down Syndrome plays six instruments

Utica, NY (02/24/2009) - Sujeet Desai, a 27-year old musician born with Down syndrome, will perform for the community on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at Utica College. The event is free and begins at 12:30 p.m. in the Library Concourse.A graduate of the Berkshire Hills Music Academy in Massachusetts, Desai has traveled around the world, performing at churches, hospitals, schools and senior centers where he has showcased his virtuosity. He plays six instruments including the piano, drums and violin.
In addition to his musical feats, Desai also has a second-degree black belt and has won gold and silver medals in swimming and alpine skiing at the Special Olympics. He has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, and the Oprah Winfrey Show where his inspirational accomplishments were celebrated.
“People say that I have been a role model to young children around the world with disabilities, especially those born with Down syndrome,” Desai said. “I like to make my presentations more than just entertaining, but educational, as well as inspirational.”
Sponsored by the Utica College Social Cultural Committee, the event is part of the Professor Harry F. and Mary Ruth Jackson Lunch Hour series. These events have provided UC and the local community with music, poetry, fiction, and drama since 1979.
