Michael Burkard to Read at Popular Lunch Hour Series

Award-Winning Poet to Read at UC Wednesday

Utica, NY (02/13/2009) - Utica College’s Professor Harry F. and Mary Ruth Jackson Lunch Hour Series will feature acclaimed poet Michael Burkard on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 12:30 p.m. in Macfarlane Auditorium, DePerno Hall. The event is free and open to the public.Burkard’s latest collection, his ninth book, Pennsylvania Collection Agency, was published in 2001. His style, described by one critic as “daring, dangerous and darkly intense,” is stark and embraces truth as beauty. His work has garnered the author numerous awards and honors, including the Whiting Writers’ Award and the Poetry Society of America’s Alice Fay di Castagnola Award.
Burkard teaches creative writing at Syracuse University in the graduate creative writing program. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Hobart College and a master of fine arts degree from the Iowa Writer’s Workshop.
