UC to Offer Online Master's in Criminal Justice Administration

Curriculum to Focus on Leadership, Planning

Utica, NY (10/31/2008) - In January, Utica College will offer an online master’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration, highlighting the vital themes of leadership and planning for those who seek to elevate their positions in criminal justice organizations.

The courses will be offered in eight-week modules on line to accommodate the lives of working professionals. A total of 30 credit hours are required, and there are no residencies.
The curriculum will focus on planning skills that will aid professionals in addressing administrative issues such as budgeting and staffing, as well as large events, unique situations, and health and safety threats, through the use of long-term and short-term planning.

“The criminal justice community continues to increase educational requirements for new employees,” said Greg Walsh, director and professor of the new program. “It is imperative for agency leaders and middle managers to do the same, and this graduate degree was designed specifically for those in supervisory roles, or those looking to advance their careers.”

Each course is required to reflect ongoing knowledge and practice in terms of criminal justice administration. Students will also engage in research projects that deal with local, state, national and international issues.

Utica College, long known for its dynamic suite of criminal justice programs, will soon open its new state-of-the-art economic crime and justice studies building, housing both the Center for Identity Management and Information Protection (CIMIP) and the Economic Crime Institute (ECI).
