Utica, NY (10/21/2008) - Utica College has added a new online master’s degree program in health care administration.Designed to accommodate the busy professional, the new program incorporates several essential elements that set it apart from other master’s programs in health care administration: management, leadership and continuum of care. Program director Dana Brooks Hart, Ph.D., said leadership and management expectations will be threaded throughout each course within the curriculum; graduates will be prepared to lead within the community, the profession, and the world of health care. The program will also focus on the continuum of care, an essential component of health care today, providing appropriate health services to individuals of varying needs throughout their life span.
The courses are offered in eight-week modules, beginning Oct. 27.
The projected numbers for the health care industry point to an ever-increasing need for health care professionals. According to the 2006 Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education, the U.S. health care system will face unprecedented challenges over the next ten years. Advances in technology and demands for quality and cost control will require a new level of leadership in the health care industry.
Additionally, over the next eight years, the Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts three million new jobs in the industry. The evolution of the health care system, where innovation and technology continue to foster shifts in the way health care is managed, highlight the need for highly trained professionals. While the challenges are great, the rewards can be substantial, with average salaries of health care managers in New York State in excess of $90,000 per year.
