UC Students Present at Communications Conference

Utica, NY (05/08/2008) - Five public relations and journalism students from Utica College presented their research papers at the Undergraduate Research Conference in Communications at Rochester Institute of Technology in April.Jacqueline Klotzbach, a junior public relations major, garnered a top research paper award in the category of television research for her project, “Diversity in Prime Time Television: An Analysis of Racial and Gender Diversity.” In addition, she was awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Mohawk Valley Advertising Club as the outstanding communication student in the region. This scholarship also guarantees her a summer internship with a local marketing-communication agency. Klotzbach hails from Hilton, N.Y.
Other Utica College presenters were Adam J. Lawless, (Frankfort, N.Y.) a senior public relations and journalism major who presented his paper, “Getting Your News on the Net: The Good, the Bad and the Just Plain Ugly”; Thomas Armitage, (Barneveld, N.Y.) a junior public relations major, presented “Fantasy Sports and Player Motivations”; Amanda Damiano, (Whitesboro, N.Y.) a senior public relations and journalism major, presented "On the Path to Effective Communication: An Examination of How Humane Society Organizations Use Message Appeals to Target Publics"; and Scott Tagliaferri, (Rome, N.Y.) a senior public relations major, presented his research on "Characteristics of Communication from the Instructor to the Student in an Online Course."
Their research will be published in the conference proceedings.
