Utica, NY (04/11/2008) - This week, Utica College will exhibit the creative works of “older” artists in the Frank E. Gannett Memorial Library.Sponsored by the Creativity and Wisdom in Aging class and the UC Student Gerontology Society, the week-long celebration will kick off with an opening reception Sunday, April 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Willard Conference Room, DePerno Hall.
The event is free and open to the public; refreshments will be served.
The event came about as a result of students reviewing results from a federally-funded study which suggests that participating in an arts program may have health benefits for older people.
“Creativity doesn’t stop at a certain age, and the students at UC are grateful to our artists for contributing to this display,” said Darlene Heian, assistant professor and director of gerontology.
The works can be viewed during regular library hours through April 20. For more information, contact Heian at 792-3309 or dheian@utica.edu.
