Utica, NY (03/20/2008) - Theodore S. Orlin, Harold T. Clark Professor of Human Rights Scholarship and Advocacy at Utica College, has been named 2008 Honorary President for the International Human Rights Film Festival in Albania (IHRFFA).The third annual festival, taking place this week in Tirana, Albania, was organized by the Academy of Film and Multimedia to raise awareness of human rights issues, educate the public, and to encourage debate and collaboration.
Orlin has been actively involved in Albania’s human rights community since 1992, a time when Albania was just emerging from nearly half a century of brutal and repressive communist rule.
The film festival strives to showcase international films that demonstrate the universality of human rights. Past festivals have shown films that highlighted the global dimension of human rights and how all societies must be vigilant to protect and preserve human dignity.
Orlin thinks the festival is a great way to create awareness about human rights. “The arts have served us well to bring rationality and the fundamentals of human dignity to the front of our agendas,” he said.
