Utica, NY (02/07/2008) - Safe Kids Worldwide of Otsego County is devoting this month to encouraging safer driving habits throughout the community.SafeKids, along with major sponsor Chevrolet, is launching its national campaign, “SafeKids Buckle Up,” in order to promote safer seatbelt habits among 11-14 year olds and their parents. This campaign will feature a variety of events including an information session at the 2008 Cooperstown Winter Carnival Farmer’s Market and an educational booth at the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
The market, which is part of the weekend long carnival, takes place on February 9 from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The Winter Carnival is located in Pioneer Alley, Cooperstown and entry is free.
Safe Kids will also present the Kick it and Click Awareness Display on Feb. 9 at the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta.
The date coincides with the Hall of Fame’s Girls and Women in Sports Day Programming which begins at 10 a.m. Safe Kids has designed an information session specifically on this date as it incorporates a learning experience about seatbelt safety with fun giveaways and safety tips.
The campaign was designed by a group of Utica College public relations students: Thomas Armitage, Jacquie Klotzbach, Amanda Giruzzi and Nicole Adamczyk.
“Clearly, [Safe Kids] is promoting an important cause,” Jonathan Ullman says, Vice President of Operations and Business Development at the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
As automobile fatalities continue to be a serious issue in the United States, Safe Kids has shifted its focus to this impressionable demographic in an attempt to limit future car accidents and injuries. Additional events will be featured throughout the month.
