Utica College’s public relations program was recognized recently at the International Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) conference in Philadelphia for earning Certification in Education for Public Relations by the PRSA.

In order to earn certification, the program underwent an intensive three-day evaluation process by two accredited PRSA members, one practitioner and one educator. The certification examiners analyzed the curriculum, resources, facilities, faculty qualifications, and institutional support of the program. As part of the certification process, the examiners conducted meetings with faculty, the department chair, the dean, Public Relation Student Society of America (PRSSA) officers and members, and public relations students. Local professionals and PRSA members were also asked to evaluate UC’s public relations program and its graduates.

The public relations program at UC is one of the oldest and most respected in the country. Its inspirational founder, Professor Raymond Simon, is well known throughout the public relations profession. UC’s PRSSA, which is named after Simon, was one of the founding chapters of the national student organization.

UC is the newest of just 19 colleges and universities to successfully complete the certification process and receive this national recognition. As such, many believe this furthers the already glowing reputation of the public relations program and places its students and graduates a cut above the rest.
