March Marks a Celebration of Women
UC to Honor Women at Annual Luncheon

Utica College's Womyn's Resource Center plans events in Celebration of Women

Utica, NY (02/26/2007) - In celebration of Womyn’s Herstory Month, the Utica College Womyn’s Resource Center will hold its annual “In Celebration of Women” luncheon on Tuesday, March 6. The luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Library Concourse.The luncheon is open to the public. The cost is $15. Reservations must be made by Feb. 26 through the Womyn’s Resource Center at (315) 792-3327 or the Office of Student Affairs at (315) 792-3100.
This year’s keynote speaker is Florrie Burke, senior director of international programs of the anti-trafficking program at Safe Horizon in New York City. Safe Horizon specializes in supporting victims of abuse and violent crimes. Burke is also a founding member of Freedom Network USA, a nation-wide network of advocates for victims of human trafficking and enslavement. Freedom Network USA also provides training to various organizations throughout the country concerning the detection and elimination of human trafficking.
Burke’s anti-trafficking work began in 1997, and she has since provided training to several organizations, served as an expert witness, and presented internationally on the topics of trauma and torture in human trafficking.
The National Women’s History Month theme for this year is “Generations of Women Moving History Forward.” The Womyn’s Resource Center has planned several events in conjunction with the national theme, including presentations of The Vagina Monologues on March 3 and 4, and a tour of women’s historical sites on March 31. More information and a complete calendar of Women’s History Month events will be available at the luncheon.
