Kodak Communications Director to Speak at UC

Utica, NY (10/10/2006) - Charles Smith, director of communications and vice president of Film and Photofinishing Systems at Kodak, will speak at Utica College Thursday (Oct. 12) at 4:30 p.m. in Strebel Student Center Auditorium. The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will focus on corporate communications and the media.As director of communications, Smith has responsibility for leading the company’s efforts to manage its communications to external and internal audiences on behalf of its Film and Photofinishing Systems business, one of the company’s four operating segments. In this capacity, Smith is responsible for counseling management on public relations issues facing the business, developing and managing the internal staff capability, conceiving the global public relations strategy, aligning the strategy with the business plan, participating in the selection and management of external agencies, and ensuring global alignment of key messages as the strategy is implemented.
Smith, a native Utican, has played a leading role in a number of high profile issues such as Kodak's financial turnaround, business strategies, and global trade policy. His work in this capacity, as well as his leadership role in the divestiture of the company's health business several years ago, have earned Kodak several prestigious national awards for excellence in public relations.
Smith graduated with honors from Utica College in 1972 with a degree in public relations. Smith is an active member of the Public Relations Society of America.
