How to Attach a File to a Message?

Attaching files to mail messages is very important in many courses taught online. If you need to send your instructor a file for grading or reviewing, you will need to attach the message. It is not a difficult task to perform but many students miss an important step.

You can view the tutorial in two other ways. The Adobe Acrobat Format allows you print out the tutorial with page breaks in appropriate places. The Movie Format allows you view actual screen shots and mouse movements in much more dynamic fashion. Below are the links to the tutorial information in other formats:

How to Attach Files to Mail Messages



1. Near the bottom of the Compose Mail Message window, you will see the words "Attachments:" . Click on the Browse... button next to the textbox. This will allow you to find the file you need to attach (See Fig. AT1-1). You may want to review the How to Compose a Mail Message Tutorial.

2. On the next screen, find the file you need to attach. click once on the file name (arrow 1) and then click on the Open button (arrow 2). (See Fig. AT1-2)

3. The path name of the file will be filled in the textbox. Click on the Attach file button. NOTE - This is the step that many people miss. If you do not click on the Attach file button, the file will not be sent with the mail message. (See Fig. AT1-3)

4. On the next screen, you will see the name of the file below the Attach file button. NOTE - If you do not see a file name, then the file did not get attached. Make sure to look under the attachement textbox before you send an attachement. Your file is now attached. When you click on the Send button your mail message and the attachment will be sent. (See Fig. AT1-4)
