The major in construction management is designed to prepare students for careers in the growing field of the management of construction projects. It

includes a balanced focus on:

technical construction knowledge – like methods and materials, construction processes, and surveying – and
the managerial, financial, and planning skills necessary for taking charge of construction activities.

Throughout the curriculum there are also consistent emphases on such broad strengths as excellence in oral and written communication, an understanding of the social and cultural dynamics of the construction industry, and the qualities of ethical business practice and the principles of social responsibility.

Students will learn the fundamentals of:

construction management,
project control, and
technical skills in graphics, materials, equipment, planning & scheduling, finance, and estimating.

Students in construction management will develop the skills and knowledge needed to successfully complete construction projects on time and within budget, adhering to construction standards and safety guidelines.

Professional Opportunities

The construction management industry is a diverse and global group of professional constructors and trade organizations providing a service to owners and the capital projects being undertaken. Professional construction managers are contracted to perform management and project control procedures.
