Web Browser Issues
Common web browser issues include:
- Web browsers configured for AOL
- Cookie settings
- Javascript settings
AOL Configured Web Browsers
AOL delivers web browsers to its members with customized connection proxy server settings which can make using Off Campus Login sporadic, difficult or impossible.
Am I using an AOL configured web browser?
- Do you use AOL to connect to the Internet?
- You probably use an AOL configured web browser
- Examine your web browser title and tool bars:
- If "AOL" is displayed, you are probably using an AOL configured web browser
Solutions
There are two options:
- Use a non-AOL configured web browser with Off Campus Login:
- Download and install a non-AOL configured web browser

Connectivity Issues
Connectivity issues are problems that arise from how you connect to the Internet and include:
Firewalls
- Corporate and institutional firewalls interfere with the operation of Off Campus Login
- Personal firewall software installed on your home computer is not known to interfere with Off Campus Login
What is a firewall?
- Firewalls control Internet access to and from a private network
- Corporate and institutional firewalls are controlled by the business or institution that runs the private network
- The business or institution that runs the private network determines whether to allow access to UC's Off Campus Login service from their network and computers
Solutions
- If the computer you use to connect the Internet is behind a corporate or institutional firewall:
- Contact your corporate or institutional technical support or network support staff to have them enable access to the Utica College domain or open a blocked port
- Use a computer this is not attached to a network run by a corporation or institution
Online Resources Requesting Logins
If an online resource is requesting that you login to use the service, there are two common reasons:
- You linked to the resource from a non-UC Library page and bypassed Off Campus Login
- UC Library does not subscribe to that resource or service
Linking to Online Resources from UC Library Pages
To access paid subscription online resources from off campus, you must connect to them from a UC Library page that prompts you to use Off Campus Login:
Why?
- The use of paid subscription online resources is limited to current UC students, faculty and staff
- To gain access, you need to enter your username and password into Off Campus Login before using the resource
- Only UC Library pages will prompt you to enter your username and password into Off Campus Login before displaying the resource
- To learn the basics, go to Using Off Campus Login
Determining if UC Library subscribes to a resource
UC Library subscribes to many, but not all, paid online resources.
Determining what subscription online resources UC Library makes available is simple ...
- Search Online Resources for a definitive listing of databases and other online resources
- Search the E-Journal Portal for a definitive listing e-journal subscriptions that provide full text articles
If the database or e-journal is not listed in either of the above, UC Library does not subscribe
