Library Introduces 3 New E-Book Reference Titles
UC Library recently added three new e-book titles to our virtual reference collection, Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL). GVRL electronic books reproduce the complete, unabridged print volumes and allow for:
- Traditional browsing
- Basic or advanced database-style searching of individual or multiple titles
- Access 24/7 from on or off campus, regardless of whether the library is open or closed
The three new titles complement a range of other titles available through GVRL as part of the NOVELny program. View a list of available Gale Virtual Reference Library e-book titles.
Encyclopedia of Educational Leadership and Administration E-Book
The Encyclopedia of Educational Leadership and Administration e-book presents the most recent theories, research, terms, concepts, ideas, and histories on educational leadership and school administration as it is taught in preparation programs and practiced in schools and colleges today. With over 600 entries, written by more than 200 professors, graduate students, practitioners, and association officials, the two volumes of this Encyclopedia represent a comprehensive knowledge base of educational leadership and school administration. Published by Sage.
Encyclopedia of Recreation and Leisure in America E-Book
From rodeos to quilting bees, stickball to stock car racing, American pastimes comprise a broad range of activities. The two-volume Encyclopedia of Recreation and Leisure in America provides a comprehensive survey of these activities from the Colonial era to the present. This title examines how the pursuit of leisure has changed over time, reflecting shifting social, cultural, political and economic trends in the United States. Particular attention is paid to how leisure activities have varied by region, class, ethnicity, gender and age. Such information fuels history class discussions and assignments as the curriculum increasingly requires students to understand not only the milestones of political and military history, but also how people lived day to day. From entries on specific types of leisure activities to discussions of important themes in the history of leisure, the Encyclopedia provides a unique window into this key component of American social history. International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences (2nd ed.) E-Book
This 9-volume study of social sciences is a successor to the Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences and the initial set of the International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences – two groundbreaking Macmillan works that "established standards for knowledge in social science research and practice" (CHOICE, 2001). The entirely new International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences covers scholarship and fields that have emerged and matured since the publication of the original international edition. Like its predecessors, the set meets the needs of high school and college students, researchers inside and outside academia, and lay readers in public libraries.
The new set highlights the expanding influence of economics in social science research and features nearly 3,000 entirely new articles and important biographies contributed by thousands of scholars (including several Nobel prize winners) from around the world on a wide array of global topics, including: achievement testing, censorship, personality measurement, aging, income distribution, foreign aid (political and economic aspects), food (world problems, consumption patterns), cultural adaptation, comparative health-care systems, terrorism, political correctness, agricultural innovation, legislation of morality, sexual violence and exploitation, white collar crime.
