Utica, NY (11/10/2014)
- Senator Kirsten Gillibrand visited Utica College today to tour the college’s cybersecurity academic and research facilities, declaring UC a real leader in cybersecurity education.

Gillibrand noted that the Mohawk Valley is protecting the country with its technology.

"The fact that we offer both undergrad and graduate and a master's degree in all of forms of cybersecurity issues, whether it's economic security...whether it's national security, we are training the best and brightest to help the public, the economy and national security," Gillibrand said.

The need for highly educated experts trained to identify, protect and prevent cyber attacks is increasing every second. That is why a comprehensive program like UC’s, which prepares students for this in-demand field, is invaluable.

Careers in information assurance rank no. 11 on the U.S. News Top 100 Best Jobs with a less than one percent unemployment rate and average salaries of $118,000.

Utica College’s cybersecurity programs carry endorsements from numerous government agencies. UC is designated as a National Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance and Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security. It is also only the seventh institution of higher learning in the country to earn a National Center for Digital Forensics Academic Excellence from the Defense Cyber Crime Center, and is one of the few institutions to carry both designations.

Utica College is also home to the Northeast Cyber Forensic Center, a fully functional crime laboratory that provides digital forensic services to law enforcement, public and private entities. It is also home to the Economic Crime and Cybersecurity Institute (ECCI) and the Center for Identity Management and Information Protection (CIMIP).
