TASCET Adds ID Protection Expertise

TASCET adds new realm of expertise to CIMIP

- Utica College’s Center for Identity Management and Information Protection (CIMIP) welcomes its newest stakeholder, TASCET Identity Network.
   
An identity and privacy protection firm specializing in identification, TASCET adds a new facet to the range of expertise among CIMIP stakeholders. Unlike systems that rely on the verification of identity documents such as birth certificates or Social Security cards, TASCET identifies the individual. Verifying documents does not identify individuals because the process does not confirm that the person presenting them is the same individual to whom the documents were issued; nor does it protect individuals from identity fraud. TASCET’s secure infrastructure prevents individuals from fraudulently using multiple identities within different organizations, whether at state agencies, financial institutions or medical facilities. TASCET protects the privacy of individuals by preventing another individual from using their personal information to open bank accounts, apply for employment, receive medical care or obtain an identification credential. 
   
Donald Rebovich, Ph.D., executive director of CIMIP, believes the addition of TASCET bolsters the Center’s eminent roster of identity protection experts. “TASCET has long been a leader in offering an approach that prevents both government and private sector organizations from issuing credentials or services to individuals using false, stolen or alias identities,” he said. 
   
Rebovich also notes that TASCET is a key player in keeping the nation safe. “TASCET plays an important role in helping to protect our national security and the privacy of citizens,” he said. “We are confident that TASCET’s participation in CIMIP will strengthen the center’s ability to develop innovative research and evaluation projects aimed at containing and preventing the misuse and manipulation of personal identities.” 
   
TASCET joins a number of government, corporate and academic stakeholders in CIMIP, including the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, United States Marshals, Triad Biometrics, Aveksa, the University of Texas at Dallas, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
   
TASCET is headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, with offices in Washington, D.C.
   
CIMIP of Utica College has garnered national recognition for its landmark study on the perpetrators of identity theft based on closed Secret Service cases. One of the center’s current projects involves identity manipulation by sex offenders attempting to avoid detection.
