Spyware/Adware/Malware

Note: ResNet is not authorized to remove malware from your machine. We can only offer suggestions about its removal.

If your computer is slow, not responsive, and pop-up windows launch frequently, then you probably have some instance of malware installed on your computer. Malware is classified as any program that uses your computer to disrupt your computer or Internet connection. Some malware programs host pop-up ads and others harvest personal information. To remove malware, ResNet recommends both SpyBot Search and Destroy and Lavasoft Ad-Aware

Is my residence hall wireless?

Alumni, Bell, North, South, New and Tower Halls are all wired. This means that computers in these dorms require an Ethernet card and Ethernet Cat5 patch cable to connect.

Burrstone House is the only wireless residence hall, and students may use wireless cards provided by Utica College ResNet. Students can pick up the card and an installation CD at the ResNet Office.

Cards are availible free of charge for use during the Fall and Spring Semesters. They must be returned when a student moves out of Burrstone, or they will be charged for replacement. Please stop by the ResNet office for more information on Wireless Cards.

Note: Begining Fall 2006, ResNet will no longer supply students with Wirless cards. Students must have wireless cards in their computer or purchase them in order to use the internet and network services in Burrstone House.

Can I use network storage from my room?

Yes, you can access your network drives from the Residence Halls.

Network Storage Instructions.

Using your network drive is an effective and safe way to back up important documents or access them in classes or dorms.
