Leonore Fleming, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Philosophy

Professor Leonore Fleming received a Ph.D. in philosophy and M.S. in biology from Duke University. She specializes in philosophy of biology, philosophy of science, biomedical ethics, and theoretical biology. She researches evolutionary explanation, specifically, the question of what selection can and cannot explain.
She also enjoys studying the history and philosophy of science, Darwin, philosophy and literature, existentialism, and Wittgenstein. She has published in both philosophy and biology journals, most recently in Evolution and Development, Perspectives on Science, and Evolutionary Biology. Leonore is the SCIENCE person in the department.
