![]() “ ... There are lots of open doors for nurses with four-year degrees. With a two-year degree you're pretty much going to be a staff nurse on a hospital floor, but with a four-year degree you can be a charge nurse, a traveling nurse, a flight nurse on a helicopter, or a pharmaceutical representative” Emilio Flores '02 RN, Medical-Surgical/Orthopedics St.Luke's Hospital Is your idea of nursing limited to staff nurses working in traditional hospitals? Today’s nurses work in a variety of settings, including emergency rooms, acute care facilities, long-term care facilities, community clinics, research labs, government agencies, school systems, health care agencies, and insurance agencies. They can work in large urban areas, remote rural locations, or other countries. Nurses can enter into advance practice roles such as nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, or researchers, to name just a few. They can elect to teach college, or enter administration as directors or even vice presidents. Nursing is truly a lifelong profession, and the possibilities are endless. |
