Student Teaching

To qualify for student teaching, you need to:

• Undergraduate students must maintain an overall minimum gpa of 2.75; graduate students must maintain an overall minimum gpa of 3.0
• Receive a grade no lower than a C in any course in the Education Program
• Take the LAST prior to student teaching
• Receive the positive endorsement of the faculty in your major and education
• Take the Geography and Language Arts tests prior to student teaching (Study guide is available below for the Geography test) Tests are taken in the Education Office.

Please take the ATS-W test when you have completed your education courses. Passing the LAST, ATS-W, and CST is required prior to initial certification. Should you need assistance in preparing for these exams, help with test taking skills is available in our Academic Support Services Center. You can also enroll in on-line preparation for the New York State Teacher Certification exams at www.certed.com 

The Education Department sends requests for cooperating teachers to all area school districts. Student teaching placements will be assigned by the Education Department.
