Accomodations

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Radisson Hotel in Utica, New York. A special rate of $79-99 (depending on time of year) for a single room per night has been arranged. You should contact the Hotel directly to reserve your room at (315) 797-8010. Mention to reservations that you are a Utica College student with the tDPT residency. Directions to the Radisson Hotel

The two recommended flight destinations are Syracuse International Airport (50 miles west) and Albany International Airport (80 miles east).

From either airport proceed to I-90 (the NYS Thruway – a toll Interstate) and go east or west as appropriate to the Utica exit (#31). It is suggested that you rent a car for the time you are here.

From the Thruway exit, go through the tollgate, stay left, and follow the exit ramp over the bridge to Genesee Street South. Turn right from the exit ramp onto Genesee Street. You will go through 4 traffic lights. At the 5th light you'll find the Radisson Hotel on your right. Turn right and proceed into the parking garage.


Directions from the Radisson to Utica College

Out of the parking garage proceed straight ahead to Genesee Street and turn right going South. Follow Genesee approximately 2-3 miles and turn right onto Burrstone Road. After the 2nd light, the entrance to UC will be on the right (look for signs to UC).


Residency Location

Your residency will be held in the new Economic Crime and Justice Studies Building (ECJS), located just off of the Burrstone Road entrance to campus. Please click on the following link to the UC campus map. The ECJS building is #7:

Advanced Clinical Practice Course:
Endurance Impairments: Testing and Training from Disease States to Health Promotion
- A Case Based Approach
Presented by Dr. Steven Tepper, PT, PhD

Description

This course focuses on common endurance impairments seen in a wide variety of patients. Differential diagnostic examinations will be covered extensively, preparing the clinician to recognize many of commonly seen cardiovascular and pulmonary complications. Dr. Tepper will discuss limitations to endurance activities, contraindications to endurance testing/activity, signs and symptoms that would end endurance testing/activity and selecting the most appropriate endurance test for patients. Using the Guide to Physical Therapy Practice, a case study approach utilizing the various commonly seen clinical patient situations will be discussed along with treatment interventions. Situations will include lower extremity claudication, deep venous thrombosis, obese patient with high cardiovascular risk (wellness intervention), elderly individual wishing to improve her endurance, end stage CHF and COPD.

9:00 – 12:00 - Explain the importance the various body systems have on endurance activities
and the implications of pathology leading to endurance impairments, functional limitations and disability. Differentiate which system might be causing the endurance impairment

1:00 – 2:00 - Differentiate contraindications, termination points of endurance testing/training
2:15 - 4:00 - Endurance Tests:

 Other Useful Information

There are Urgent Care walk in clinics at Slocum Dickson Medical Center on Burrstone Road (one block west of the campus) and at Faxton Hospital (three blocks east). Emergency rooms can be found at St. Luke’s (across Champlin Ave from the campus) and St. Elizabeth’s (south of Burrstone Road on Genesee Street).

There is an ATM in the lobby of White Hall.
