A Message From The Chair Of
Physical Therapy

Shauna Malta, D.P.T., Chair,
Physical Therapy Program

Welcome to the Utica College Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. If you want an exciting, lucrative, and personally satisfying career that involves working with people of all ages to meet their health care needs and improve their quality of life, Physical Therapy may be the field for you.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the demand for physical therapists is going to grow by greater than 27% over the next 8 years, and that we can expect there to be a significant shortage of this highly-skilled professional practitioner for many years to come. This means that job opportunities will be far more numerous than individuals to fill them. Because of this, diversity of choice for clinical practice settings, professional advancement opportunities, and income potential are higher than they have ever been before.

Utica College offers two degree programs in physical therapy. For individuals wishing to enter the profession (freshman, transfers, or individuals who possess a related undergraduate degree), our entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy Program (DPT) boasts an outstanding faculty, and utilizes a modified problem-based learning curricular model to prepare physical therapists who are firmly grounded in the liberal arts, and able to function in a complex health care system and diverse society.

For practicing clinicians, we are also proud to offer a Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy Program (tDPT). This online program is designed to fit the needs of the licensed professional who earned their entry-level physical therapy degree prior to the advent of doctoral level education programs. The transitional DPT program builds on the skills, knowledge, and experience of experienced professionals, and entitles graduates to the same degree as their entry-level colleagues, the Doctor of Physical Therapy.

Please enjoy your tour of our Web site, and be sure to contact us if we can answer any questions for you as you consider your options for pursuing an education in physical therapy. We are proud of our programs at Utica College, and would love to share them with you.

Best regards,

Shauna Malta, D.P.T.
