CLARK SUMMER FELLOWSHIP/ RESEARCH GRANT


Marie-Noëlle Little, Professor of French Professor Little will travel to Italy to attend a major international conference on American poet Ezra Pound, where her paper has been accepted, and also travel to a seminar in Northern Italy followed by travel to France to collect material for the new Foreign Language major.  She will also produce an essay on Swedish Nobel Laureate Harry Martinson, and a bibliography for a new book project on Swedish painter and writer Bo Beskow.

Divya Sharma, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice
Professor Sharma will travel to Delhi, India to explore anomic conditions that exist in Delhi and its surrounding areas and flesh trade with focus on anomic conditions.  Her proposal reflects professional development in the area of transnational crime and will contribute to the College’s graduate and under-graduate curriculums.



SUMMER FELLOWSHIPS


John Foreman, Assistant Professor of English
This is a joint research project with Professor Angel Rivera to develop a working prototype of an interactive online multimedia dictionary and grammar for Macuiltianguis Zapotec, an indigenous language of Mexico.

Zhaodan Huang, Assistant Professor of Economics
Gervais, Kaniel, and Mingelgrin (2001) first document that stocks with positive volume shock tend to outperform stocks with negative volume shock and name this effect as the high-volume premium.  This research project revisits the high-volume premium based on the weekly risk adjusted return generated by the four factor model of Carhart (1997).  The purpose is to empirically investigate that pattern of the high volume premium based on risk-adjusted abnormal return.

Gary Leising,  Assistant Professor of English
Professor Leising will be attending the Colrain Poetry Manuscript Conference in Colrain, MA which will provide him the opportunity to present his work to editors and publishers and receive feedback in preparation for submitting his manuscript to publishers for their consideration.

Angel Rivera, Assistant Professor of Computer Science

Dale Scalise-Smith, Associate Professor of Physical Therapy
Professor Scalise-Smith will be traveling to Albania with a primary focus to explore opportunities for bringing Physical Therapy to the people of Albania.  The trip is primarily directed towards the healthcare needs, in particular physical therapy, for children with disabilities living in Albania.

John Swanson, Associate Professor of History
Professor Swanson will be working on four separate projects this summer:  finishing the first draft of a book manuscript on the German minority in Hungary; continuing interviews for a documentary film on the meaning of “German” for German-speakers in Hungary; research in Hungary for an article on historical culture and victimization that he is writing as part of a research team in Lund, Sweden; and reading proofs of an anthology on contemporary Europe that he co-edited with a colleague at Auburn University.

Pamela Thompson, Assistant Professor of Education
Professor Thompson will continue research and travel towards the completion of a co-authored book, A Geo-Ethnographer’s Guide to Exploring School and Community Places.  She will travel to Amsterdam, Holland to participate in the study to apply those findings to the final chapters of the proposed book.

Professor Little received a small grant to defray the cost of books, microfilm, photocopying, mailing and telephone for her project on Forssell and Setterlind Letters.
